Mar. 2023At the Cam Nam Island ,The tour guide led us through some wooden bridges to arrive at the jetty where we board the Coracle ,the local people call it a "tourist boat".The Coracle only takes 2 passengers .It paddle us through the river surrounded by the Nipah palm forest. Simply amazed by their boating art and peformances at the centre of its river !!After this Coracle ride, we walked to the Silk Village. Lunch was served in the Silk Village Restaurant . After Lunch a tour on the Silk producing process to the making of Silk. Minutes over the bridge to the busy old town, on the island slower pace, more relaxed some great places to eat. We lived there for 3 months last year, and on other visits over 5 is developing and that big resort on the right over the bridge is a worry . Can see the locals being squeezed out by money wanting to build resorts. Lets hop[e that it is An is at risk of cooking the golden goose with what I've seen over just 7 years. whole blocks bulldozed for mega-resorts. It is much quieter than the old town and has a little supermarket, corner shops and spas. We tended to get our food from the fruit market and the night market. It was really safe to walk there in the early evening with the family. the streets were quite muddy and there is a lot of development, but in the villa, it was spotless. The beach is only 15 mins awy by electric car 100,000 VND. I also walked to the end of the island one day up towards the river's entry to the sea. It was very interesting to see village life with a small market further down the island. It is also interesting to see the local school and the kids coming and going getting picked up by the parents' on their motorbikes. The great thing is that you can actually take part in some of the process. From the river, we were approached by an older gentleman, enthusiastically paddling his small round, basket-boat for our amusement. He was willing to take onboard those who wished to experience some fun within his transportation, which he paddled rapidly in circles. Great fun, and we each offered a dollar for experiencing the ride. Along the banks of Cam Nam Island, we saw fishermen in both boats, and while wading along the shore, and interesting nets set up within near the banks.
